Position Summary

The Senior Instructional Designer will work closely with key stakeholders to create and oversee a suite of online offerings within the Division of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE). The Senior Instructional Designer will report directly to the Associate Vice President, Professional and Continuing Education.   

In this role, the University of New Orleans seeks an enthusiastic, self-starter to develop innovative online solutions leading directly to creation of revenue-generating educational programs across professional domains including but not limited to business, health care, engineering, technology, entertainment and arts, tourism and aerospace manufacturing. Successful candidates will have the background and skillset to identify new online program opportunities and ability to follow through and cultivate these opportunities for the division and university. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to student success and high-impact practices. The division is looking for an individual who may leverage a strong network of domestic and international contacts which will contribute to the creation as well as sustenance of online programs offered through PaCE. 

Responsibilities
  • Develop online programing strategy to ensure growth of mutually beneficial educational partnerships, leading to attainment of revenue goals
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects according to defined deadlines while maintaining consistency with strategy and goals
  • Develop learning plans with subject matter experts
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design online programs using course learning objectives, materials, and subject matter expert and textbook content
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement instructional technology that advances the student experience and aligns to curriculum goals and instructional needs
  • Work with a variety of multimedia and audio-visual technologies (including but not limited to Moodle, Canvas, Zoom), networks, and computer hardware and software (i.e. Adobe Suite, Panopto, Camtasia, Office Mix and related software), applying the appropriate solution to problems
  • Coordinate with Campus Information Technology and Moodle Learning Management System administrators for webcasting and video production as needed
  • Develop presentation and training materials for instructional technologies, including FAQs, knowledge-based entries and job aids such as video guides, infographics, step-by-step guides
  • Test and assess the integration capabilities of instructional technologies with the LMS and relevant systems
  • Investigate, evaluate, and propose new technology tools to address needs not currently satisfied by university’s online learning technology resources
Required Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction or related field from an accredited institution
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, learning team members, vendor partners, and business partners to create a learning environment that is service oriented, supportive, engaging and effective for adult and nontraditional learners
  • Ability to be a self-starter and demonstrate initiative as well as good judgment in determining when additional guidance is needed
  • Ability to approach a wide range of projects strategically and creatively, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines in a position that requires attention to multiple projects, and to work quickly and effectively on deadline projects
  • Ability to provide thought leadership in learning system design and development and impact upon adult learners
  • Ability to optimize integration between student information system and learning management system including leading change when needed
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and learning curricula
  • Demonstrated understanding of delivering course content and tools that support accessibility and universal design for learning
  • Demonstrated proficiency in explaining and applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials
  • Demonstrated skill in executing complex projects from concept to implementation
  • Effective interpersonal skills to maintain diplomacy in difficult situations, maintain confidentiality and conduct self in a professional manner
  • Effective interpersonal skills to communicate collaboratively, perform as a team player, and provide excellent customer service
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior work experience creating online programs in continuing education, adult learning or related professional environments
