University of New Orleans Announces Jazz at the Sandbar Spring 2018 Lineup

Grammy Award nominee and University of New Orleans alumnus Jamison Ross will kick off the spring 2018 season of the acclaimed Jazz at the Sandbar concert series when he performs Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at The Cove on UNO’s campus. The series, established by emeritus faculty member Ellis Marsalis in 1990, pairs seasoned professional musicians with UNO jazz students on the bandstand in a music club environment.

Admission is free to the UNO community (with ID), with a $5 suggested donation for the general public.

Free and open to the public.

Jazz at the Sandbar is presented each Wednesday night for eight weeks during the fall and spring semesters and features a different respected jazz artist each week. All members of the UNO community are welcome to attend for free. For all others, a donation of $5 is suggestion. The Sandbar is located inside the The Cove building on the western edge of the University of New Orleans campus and offers a convivial atmosphere, food and libations.

Jazz at the Sandbar is presented by the University of New Orleans School of the Arts with support from Nate and Priscilla Gordon, the UNO Student Government Association, OffBeat Media, WWNO FM, The New Orleans Theatre Association, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the New Orleans Jazz Celebration. All admission proceeds go to the George Brumat Memorial Scholarship Fund.

March 14 – clarinetist and composer Evan Christopher

March 21 – recent Grammy nominees for Best Latin Jazz Album, Jane Bunnett & Maqueque

April 4 – Italian jazz guitarist Pasquale Grasso

April 11 - Matt Lemmler, pianist, vocalist, composer, arranger and musical director for the New Orleans Jazz Revival Band

April 18 - multiple Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer Terrence Blanchard

April 25 - David Murray, known for tenor saxophone and bass clarinet

May 2 – master percussionist Herlin Riley
