Computer Architecture and VLSI Laboratories
Faculty in Charge: Dr. A. Alsamman
The Computer Architecture and VLSI Laboratories reside in rooms 615 and 616 of the UNO engineering building. These labs are used primarily by the electrical engineering curriculum labs ENEE3512 "Microprocessor Design Lab" and ENEE3514 "Computer Architecture Lab". ENEE3512 is taken concurrently with ENEE 3582 "Digital Design using Microcomputers" by all electrical engineering students. ENEE3514 is taken concurrently with ENE3583 "Computer System Design" by students in the computer engineering concentration.
This lab is also used by several other courses for special sessions and labs. Such classes include ENEE2582 "Digital System Design", ENEE2586 "Digital Logic Lab", ENEE3530 "Continuous and Discrete Signals and Systems", ENEE4585 "HDL Chip Design", and ENEE4536 "Embedded Multimedia Systems".
Students have access to 35 computers that run assemblers and microprocessor simulators. Students also have access to Motorola HCS12 and HC11 microcontrollers for use in embedded and real-time applications, and Altera FPGA boards and software for advanced microcontroller applications. Additionally, students have access to software such as MATLAB, and CAD software such as Quartus, Multisim, and Pspice.
