UNO-Japan is proud to announce its 10th year anniversary program in 2018! This has only been made possible by all of the wonderful alumni who have participated in the progam over this past decade.
In 2018, alongside new participants, we are inviting our alumni to participate in our Special 10th Anniversary Field Trip, described below. Alumni are also invited to join us (at no cost to you) for our Welcome Party on May 28, and any additional field trips in which you might wish to take part. To sign up for the Anniversary Field Trip (or any other trips), please fill out an online application ($100.00 deposit required) and select "UNO-Japan Anniversary Travel" as your program. For payment terms, please go to our Fees page. To make other arrangements, or simply to attend the Welcome Party, please just email us at
Special 10th Anniversary Field Trip

Date: Wednesday, May 30 - Saturday, June 2, 2018
Cost: $450.00

English Student, photo credit: Amy NguyenTo celebrate our 10th anniversary, we have scheduled a special, exciting field trip for the first week of the program. Using JR Rail passes, and under the tutelage of Dr. David Rands, we will visit important sites such as Osaka, Himeji Castle, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. This trip is intended to include for-credit students as well as alumni and non-credit participants.

The itinerary is planned as follows (subject to change):

  • Wednesday, May 30: Classes during periods 1 and 2 (class schedule may differ from regularly scheduled time periods), with an afternoon departure for Himeji castle. Return to Kyoto.
  • Thursday, May 31: All classes cancelled. Travel to Osaka, where we tour various sites within the city (see Osaka Field Trip information below). Return to Kyoto. NOTE: participants may opt to sign up just for the Osaka day field trip if they prefer not to participate in the entire 4-day trip.
  • Friday, June 1: No classes. Travel to Hiroshima, where we tour various sites associated with the Peace Memorial Park, the Peace Museum, and Miyajima, among other places. Return to Kyoto.
  • Saturday, June 2: Travel to Tokyo, where we tour a few important sites in order to try to scratch the surface of this major metropolitan area. Participants may return to Kyoto with the staff, or opt to find their own housing in Tokyo for Saturday night in order to see more of Tokyo on their own on Sunday.

What is included:

  • 7-day JR Rail Pass
  • Guided travel on May 30 - June 2, 2018 with Dr. Rands and Ms. Hicks
  • Study abroad health insurance for up to 14 days
  • Lunch in Osaka on May 31st

What is NOT included:

  • Airfare
  • Housing
  • Meals
  • Personal travel expenses

Alumni notes:

  1. Expected arrival day is May 27th, but alumni may choose different travel dates as you see fit.
  2. Participation in the 4-day Anniversary Field Trip is entirely voluntary for alumni, so if you wish not to go with us one day, just let us know.
  3. You will need to make housing arrangements IN KYOTO from your arrival until June 1st.
  4. If you wish to remain in Tokyo on June 2nd, and then travel on your own from there, that's perfectly fine.
  5. Because we only use 4 days of a 7-day JR Rail Pass, we anticipate that alumni will want to use the last 3 days for their own personal travel within Japan.
  6. Non-credit participants are also welcome, so if you have a friend or family member who wants to participate, they are welcome too!
  7. Anyone not on a tourist visa in Japan cannot purchase the all-Japan Rail Pass, but if you are in Japan and wish to join us for any part of the program, please email us to make arrangements!
  8. Maxmimum number of participants in the alumni/non-credit group is 10. Apply now to secure your spot!
  9. Only $100.00 deposit required. Full payment is then due by March 7, 2018. Go to our Fees page for payment terms and more information.
