Student Life

UNO lies on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, the second-largest saltwater lake in the U.S. For generations, the people of New Orleans have come to the lake to picnic, play, and relax – and it’s just steps from our residence halls! Students, staff, and faculty can take a stroll or a jog under the palm trees along the waterfront twelve months out of the year. Our new on-campus residence, Pontchartrain Hall, joins the apartment-style Privateer Place in offering cable TV, high-speed internet, and on-site laundry.

And our students don’t just laze around in the sun. They lead more than 100 campus organizations; play club and intramural sports; work out in the giant, sparkling-new rec center; and take in special activities like movies and weekly student-artist jam sessions at The Sandbar, UNO’s very own jazz venue.

Of course, there’s also the small matter of living just minutes from one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations, the fabulous French Quarter. At UNO, you’ll never beshort of options!
