Annual Events and Activities

The UNO Division of Student Affairs is involved in the many traditional events and activities that take place on an annual basis. Whether it is through direct leadership to departmental events or advising student organizations or even providing support to university events, the Division of Student Affairs works very hard to enrich the lives of our students.

Although it would be impossible to list all of the special events throughout the year that Student Affairs is involved in, below you will find information about what we call traditional or yearly events that take place at the University of New Orleans.

    • Fresh FestFreshFest

A festival that enables freshmen and other students to become acquainted with UNO. Held on the Wednesday during the first week of school each year, FreshFest features music, food, and fun, as well as campus and community resources. Vendors at FreshFest include the UNO Credit Union, companies and campus departments looking to hire part-time employers, and all the student organizations.

    • Welcome Back LuauWelcome Back Luau

A campus-wide back to school event held on the first Friday of the fall semester. Sponsored by the Student Activities Council, Luau offers new and returning students the change to hang out together and relax before school gets too busy.

    • Drive in MovieDrive-In Movie

An annual event sponsored by the Student Activities Council since 1996. On a Friday evening in October, the parking lot across from the Education Building is converted into a drive-in theater, and students, staff and faculty drive their cars in to watch two recent movies.

    • Homecoming Homecoming

A celebration that welcomes UNO alumni back to campus. Homecoming features a marquee basketball game at which the homecoming court is announced. The Student Activities Council sponsors a party following the game.

    • Greek WeekGreek Week

    • SucbaufSUCbAUF

The world's largest crawfish boil. "Students Unwinding with Crawfish and Unprecedented Fun" is sponsored by the Student Activities Council, which purchases 12,000 pounds of crawfish, and serves it free to all UNO students. The event is always held during the last week of classes in the spring, and there are bands, games, and all kinds of fun.

    • Mardi Gras Parade

Krewe of UNO Annual Campus Mardi Gras Parade
Inspired by several UNO community members who embrace the spirit of Mardi Gras and the sense of community shared in participating in parades, this parade was founded in 2010.  Colleges, departments, student organizations and individual UNO community members can participate in the annual parade.  Local high school bands, the Shriners and other community organizations are also asked to participate in the parade that rolls around the UNO campus just prior to the big parades beginning in town.

    • Career Expo

The Hall Career Expo and the Mardi Gras Invitational Career Fair
These are great opportunities for job seekers to explore and investigate hundreds of different employment options across the United States and at home. These are the largest career fairs in the state and the best opportunity to experience global and national organizations and businesses.  UNO invites our students, graduates, and alumni to participate in these events for networking and cutting-edge opportunities.

    • Enough is EnoughEnough is Enough

Enough is Enough is a campaign inspired by Dr. Zenobia Lawrence Hikes, vice president of student affairs at Virginia Tech at the time of the tragic shootings.  She charted a course for the future in Student Affairs, declaring, "Enough is Enough," and called on us to act with a "fierce urgency" and stem the tide of societal violence through efforts to create community, compassion and unity.  Event such as sexual assault awareness, asking students to take a pledge against interpersonal violence, and random acts of kindness are planned.
