The UNO Center for Undergraduate Research is pleased to introduce PURSUE (Privateer Undergraduate Research and Scholarly UNO Experience)

The goals of this program are two-fold.

1. Introduce all UNO undergraduate students to research opportunities: the search and discovery of new information through creative and scholarly works.

2. Provide the mechanisms for students to find faculty research mentors.

How To Apply (Students & Mentors)

  • Student application period opens Friday, August 17, 2018
  • Faculty/staff can sign up as a mentor via the Mentor Biosketch Submission Form (see Resources Box). Deadline to be a mentor is Friday, August 3, 2018.

 Award period January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019


  • 30 anticipated awards of $1,500 each in the form of student worker positions (paid at $15/hour; limit 10 hours/week and maximum of 100 hours paid).
  • Students with 100 or more hours of previous formal research, scholarly, or artistic experience may receive higher funding rates.  Determination will be made based on application materials.
  • Students of all class rank (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) are eligible.

  • All currently enrolled UNO degree-seeking undergraduate students in all academic disciplines eligible.
  • Domestic and international students are eligible.
  • Students must identify a UNO faculty research mentor on the submission form.
  • Minimum cumulative G.P.A. is a 2.0  (minimum required to be hired as a student worker).
  • During the semesters employed, students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours during each Fall and Spring semester and three hours in the summer.
  • You do not need to be eligible for federal work study to receive this award, however, the University of New Orleans requires all domestic student employees have a current, completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file with the University. The student will be reviewed for Federal Work-Study prior to being hired as a Budget student employee.
  • If you applied for a PURSUE award previously and did not receive an award, you may reapply.
  • If you received a PURSUE award previously, you are eligible to reapply.
  • Note: The award period for the upcoming year will be January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019, so if you are graduating in December 2018, you will be ineligible.
