Develop public/private partnerships that increase teaching, research and technology transfer opportunities for faculty and students at the University of New Orleans. The Office of Technology & Economic Development links university expertise with industry and government entities to:
- Stimulate the growth of research, technology advancement and educational collaboration among industry, government and other university partners;
- Foster innovation, commercialization and economic competitiveness;
- Connect the university to the economies in the Greater New Orleans area and the Gulf Coast region to create research opportunities, jobs for UNO graduates and improve the economic viability of this region and the rest of the State of Louisiana.
Current examples include:
University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park – winner of the 2003 Outstanding Research/Science Park. Achievement Award from the Association of University of Research Parks (AURP). Additionally, the Economic DevelopmentAdministration recognized the park as one of its star projects. Housing over 20 high tech companies, the Navy SPAWAR Information Technology Center, and university research units, the research park employs more than 1000 high tech workers.
Gulf Coast Government Contractor Association – build opportunities for local companies, UNO and other Gulf Coast universities by networking, education and partnering to win contracts (e.g., NASA, Department of Defense, NAVOCEANO, Corp of Engineers).
Coastal Sustainability Consortium – create opportunities to capitalize on the $1 billion in research within the Gulf Coast universities and federal installations, building greater capacity and market recognition through collaboration.

Technology Transfer/Intellectual Property (IP) Management
The mission of the Office of Intellectual Property Management & Commercialization is to make UNO Technology relevant to Industry. The Office serves both university researchers and private sector companies seeking university partnerships. We strive to increase intellectual property awareness within UNO, encourage the reporting of potentially valuable IP; conduct assessments to select IP for active management; and commercialize UNO IP through licensing to include the development of start-up companies, when appropriate, locating them in UNO’s Research & Technology Park.
