Export control regulations are federal laws prohibiting the export of selected commodities or data for purposes of national security or to protect trade. An export can be the physical transportation out of the United States, or a “deemed export” if a foreign national is allowed access to the prohibited item in the United States. While most exports do not require a license, any of those the federal government classifies as “license controlled” will require a license prior to being exported.
