University of New Orleans Crowns 2014 Royal Homecoming Court

University of New Orleans Crowns 2014 Royal Homecoming CourtAspen Bartholomew and Rachel Hoffman will reign in 2014 as UNO Homecoming King and Queen.

The University of New Orleans crowned its 2014 Royal Homecoming Court on Thursday during halftime of a New Orleans Privateers basketball game against the Nicholls State Colonels. Shortly after undergraduates Aspen Bartholomew and Rachel Hoffman were crowned Homecoming King and Queen, the Privateers declared sweet victory in a 70-64 game in which senior Cory Dixon scored a career high 26 points. 

Bartholomew and Hoffman were elected by their peers in a vote run by the University Student Activities Council, which gathered nominations from various student organizations, introduced the court and held interviews. 

Ten students vied this year for the titles of Homecoming King and Queen. They included:

Aspen Bartholomew - a junior and electrical engineering major sponsored by the UNO Orientation Leaders

Caitlin Gunnell - a senior history major nominated by the UNO Orientation Leaders

Daniel Atienzar - a senior Naval architecture and marine engineering major, sponsored by Kappa Sigma fraternity

Kelsy Matthews - a senior film, theater and communication arts major sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta sorority

Kevan Richard - a senior business administration major sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority

Kolby Heid - a junior film, theater and communication arts major sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity

Philip Lopez - a senior accounting and business administration major sponsored by the UNO Ambassadors

Rachel Gleason - a junior international business major sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority

Rachel Hoffman - a senior electrical engineering major sponsored by the UNO Orientation Leaders

Tara Pence - a junior interdisciplinary studies major sponsored by Sigma Kappa sorority

Homecoming festivities continue Friday with a Homecoming Dance for students in the University Center, the honoring of Geocent CEO Bobby Savoie as 2014 Distinguished Alumnus, a return of Head Baseball Coach Ron Maestri to the dugout, two baseball games against top 2 nationally ranked team the LSU Tigers, an alumni tailgate at Zephyr Stadium, honoring the 1974 and 1984 College World Series teams and a Sunday basketball game against McNeese.
