The University of New Orleans  joins more than 300 organizations participating next week in GiveNOLA Day, the community's first one-day online giving event designed "to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger and thriving community for all," according to the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

Give Back!

Every dollar donated from midnight to midnight on Tuesday, May 6 will be increased with additional "lagniappe" dollars provided by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and GiveNOLA Day sponsors.

I want to give back to UNO.

Of the four universities participating, UNO is the only one representing public higher education. Every dollar donated from midnight to midnight on Tuesday, May 6 will be increased with additional "lagniappe" dollars provided by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and GiveNOLA Day sponsors.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference at the University of New Orleans," said Melissa Tyler, annual fund manager for University Advancement. "Every gift counts toward improving campus resources and national rankings."

National rankings are partially based on alumni participation, which is in part measured by annual giving, she said. Development funds can also help to provide scholarships and build new opportunities for our students.

GiveNOLA day, hosted on Tuesday, May 6 by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is billed as "an opportunity to come together as one," according to the GNOF website.

Built on successful models seen in other cities, GiveNOLA will help to raise money for the community, bring new donors to local nonprofits and help make our region a more vital place to live. GiveNOLA Day is tied to a national event called Give Local America, where hundreds of community foundations across America are asking their communities to give back on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

"As the University of New Orleans and one of the largest non-profit organizations in our city, we are an active member of all our community's efforts, educational and social/philanthropic," said Tyler.

"The Greater New Orleans Foundation, who is hosting GiveNOLA Day and providing matching funds and administrative support, is the New Orleans' community foundation and their donors have supported various UNO programs and scholarships - we need to make a good impression."
