Ron Washington to Speak at New Orleans Privateers Dugout Club Event

Ron Washington to Speak at New Orleans Privateers Dugout Club EventThe Two Rons: New Orleans Privateers’ Head Baseball Coach Ron Maestri and Texas Rangers Coach Ron Washington invite the community to a meeting of the Dugout Club on Thursday.

New Orleans native and current Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington will be the guest speaker for the New Orleans Privateers Baseball Dugout Club membership interest meeting on Thursday. Baseball season begins Feb. 14-15 with two games played against LSU, one in Baton Rouge and one at home, for Baseball Alumni Weekend.

The Dugout Club is an extension of the Privateer Athletic Foundation that allows fans inside access to the baseball program, said Brandon Rizzuto, spokesman for the New Orleans Privateers. The first meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Privateer Room at Lakefront Arena. All University of New Orleans students, alumni, faculty and fans are invited to attend, Rizzuto said. As a bonus, all those in attendance will receive free tickets to that evening's basketball doubleheader.

Washington, who guided the Rangers to back-to-back American League pennants in 2010 and 2011 has won 611 games in his first seven seasons, has notched 90 or more wins in four consecutive years.

Joining Washington in attendance will be former Privateer standout and current Kansas City Royals infielder Johnny Giavotella. Giavotella, also a New Orleans native and a graduate of Jesuit High School, batted .363 from 2006-08 with the Privateers, tallying 32 home runs and 172 RBI. He has served three stints in the Majors with the Royals and appeared in 113 games.

Privateers Head Coach Ron Maestri will serve as host of the event. Those interested in joining the Dugout Club are encouraged to attend, and all guests will receive complimentary tickets for the New Orleans vs. Abilene Christian basketball doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, said Rizzuto.
