Assistant Director for Freshman Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director for Freshman Services will coordinate all recruitment efforts and will supervise and mentor all recruitment staff. Develop, implement and assess the recruitment plan including all necessary travel, electronic and print communications, budget management and on-campus programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, coordinate, and supervise recruitment travel and outreach programs designed to enroll prospective students. This includes the supervision and evaluation of recruitment territories and the admissions counselor assigned to represent each, the coordination of community programs hosted by the Office of Admissions and programs for community outreach,  and programs designed to recruit and enroll special cohorts (military, corporate, adult learners, etc). Maintain master recruitment calendar and act as on-going liaison with colleges, high school principals, students, faculty, students, and UNO alumni.

Responsible for recruitment training of admissions counselors and area representatives in-state and out-of-state. Responsible for supervising the staff of admissions counselors involved in the recruitment, advising, counseling, and evaluation of credentials of freshman applicants. Provide expertise in marketing techniques and understanding admissions policies and procedures. Conduct special training for the staff on new procedures, policies, or techniques involved in the recruitment of students. Assist in the interviewing, selection, training, and supervision of recruitment and tours staff. This shall include the creation, maintenance, and supervision of the campus visit program.

Interview and admit prospective freshman students, evaluate high school transcripts, and review freshman admission applications as needed. Ensure the timely processing of freshman applicants by appropriate freshman admissions counselors.

Meet with prospective students, parents, and other constituencies. Advise, on an as needed basis, these groups regarding admission to UNO.

Develop, plan, and coordinate alumni recruitment alumni recruitment programs.

Assist with the development and implementation of recruitment marketing and promotion materials.

Oversee the purchase and maintenance of the University prospect pool of students. This shall include the facilitation of prospect card entry and the purchase of SAT and ACT names as appropriate.

Solicit corporate and community sponsorship/support for events. Develop relations with local businesses and metro New Orleans community.

Participate in recruitment and yield-related programs sponsored by the Office of Admissions.

All other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of two to three years of progressively responsible experience in college admissions, programming, campus tour coordination, and orientation. Excellent oral and written communication skills, supervisory, and admissions customer service experience. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and abilities. Must be able to travel and work non-traditional hours. Proven supervisory and management skills are a must.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree and experience working in Enrollment Services. Technical experience working with PeopleSoft computer software, and other software applications. Comfortable with basic marketing, advertising, and recruiting principles. A team approach to organizational techniques is a plus.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
