Postdoctoral Researcher

Associate in Computational Chemistry

POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Researcher (Associate in Computational Chemistry)

POSITION #: 1571

A computational chemistry post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans. The postdoctoral associate will work on designing a computational protocol to predict and understand protease action on peptide-based drugs. Towards this end, the chosen candidate will join the UNO Chemistry Department and interact with our industrial partner, CMDBioscienceSM. The candidate will be responsible for integrating and applying a variety of computational techniques, such as electronic structure theory methods, classical and quantum-mechanical simulation methods, and bioinformatics approaches.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, independent and creative individual with excellent written and oral communication skills. The postdoctoral appointee will work closely with Dr. Chakravorty and scientists at CMDBioscienceSM to conduct a program at the forefront of peptide based drug design research. In addition to performing research, the candidate will be expected to publish, assist in writing grant proposals, and present research at national society conferences. The Successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary subject to qualifications and experience.   The initial appointment is for one year, extendable for up to two years.   Design a protocol to predict protease action on peptide-based drugs using computational chemistry methods. Towards this the chosen candidate will join the UNO Chemistry Department and interact with our industrial partner, CMDBioscience. The candidate will primarily apply a variety of computational techniques, such as electronic structure methods, classical and quantum-mechanical molecular-mechanical molecular dynamics simulations coupled with bioinformatics approaches to understand the mechanisms of protease action and develop a methodology to protect a drug-candidate from specific proteases.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Ph.D. in Physics, biophysics, physics, or Chemistry or Material Science or any related discipline.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in these fields will be viewed favorably. Experience with C/C++, Java, Python and FORTRAN programming will be an added advantage.

SALARY: $40,000 per annum.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: To apply for the position, please send your CV, names of three references for recommendation letters, and a research statement to dhruva.chakravorty-$
