POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Student Affairs Assessment leads a culture of evidence-based program effectiveness across student affairs to achieve student success at UNO.  The Director will assess and evaluate the effectiveness of student success driven programs, develop strategic plans, and oversee the implementation of these plans to overall enhance student-learning outcomes.

The Director of Student Affairs Assessment reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The Director assists the senior executive management team with advancing institutional effectiveness associated with learning outside the classroom in support of university and division strategic goals and initiatives.  The Director collaborates with divisional and institutional partners to enhance the assessment climate and enable a fully integrated assessment process.  Through education, training, and research this position will establish an effective model for planning and assessment that will support the vision of creating a satisfied and successful student body at UNO.


Assessment & Research: 50%

  • Provide leadership for university wide efforts in using evidence-based practices for planning and assessment.  Enhance student affairs department leaders’ understanding of their roles in program effectiveness and strategic planning.  Research and develop strategies to assess student learning such as qualitative and quantitative assessment plans. Provide support to student affairs program leaders in the development and implementation of assessments. 
  • Compile research and assessment reports aligning with UNO’s mission and goals.  Present and publish findings at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Apply university wide and SACS accreditation standards to strategic planning and implementation of assessment and evaluation practices.  Ensure student affairs meets requirements of institutional effectiveness.

Coordination & Collaboration: 40%

  • Coordinate regular meetings with student affairs program leaders as well as academic departmental leaders to cultivate a partnership for planning and assessment.
  • Identify and present strategic planning, assessment and planning tools to student affairs and academic departmental leaders
  • Collaborate with offices on campus and off campus to promote best practices of evidence-based student affairs assessment. 

Administration & Other: 10%

  • Conduct student affairs program reviews to evaluate baselines and potential barriers for assessment planning.  Develop a plan with student affairs program leaders for follow up and follow through.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in research, assessment, and evaluation.  Attend and present at local, regional and national conferences. 
  • Develop and maintain a student affairs assessment committee to promote and enhance the development of utilizing evidence-based assessment and evaluation.
  • Other projects, research or analysis as designated by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

Masters degree in higher education, business or related field.  Experience in higher education with experience or collaboration with student affairs.  Highly effective leadership, organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree in higher education, business or related field. Knowledge of best practices in student affairs assessment, evaluation and strategic planning.  Experience in collecting, analyzing, reporting and interpreting qualitative and quantitative results.  Experience presenting and publishing at local, regional or national levels.  Supervisory experience in higher education or related field.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
