Vice President for Business Affairs

POSITION SUMMARY: The Vice President for Business Affairs serves as a senior administrator on campus and is the chief financial and business officer of the University and reports to the President. Responsibilities include: Oversight and management of the Offices of Business Affairs, Facility Services, Human Resource Management, Auxiliary Services, and Recreation and Intramural Sports. These responsibilities include: budget, human resources, payroll, business services, facilities management and construction, materials management, special projects, and bursar functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Vice President for Business Affairs shall serve as senior financial advisor to the President in all fiscal matters. The specific areas of responsibility shall include the following:

  • Oversee the management of the Offices of Business Affairs, Facility Services, Human Resource Management, Auxiliary Services, and Recreation and Intramural Sports, providing direct supervision over the following personnel: Assistant Vice President – Budget, Finance and Systems, Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs – Accounting and Procurement, Executive Director of Facility Services, Director of Human Resource Management, Director of Auxiliary Services, and the Director of Recreation and Intramural Sports.
  • Develop appropriate campus wide procedures and instructions for preparation of the University's Annual Operating Budget.
  • Administer the University's Operating Budget through exercise of appropriate fiscal controls and direct the preparation of budget adjustments as required.
  • Following preparation of the University's Indirect Cost Study, negotiate with federal authorities those rates that apply to grants and contracts.
  • Interact on a day-to-day basis with members of the University community in fiscal matters and provide interpretation of University policies and procedures.
  • Review the University's Annual Financial Statements to insure that they present fairly in financial position of the institution and the results of its operations in accordance with those principles promulgated by NACUBO
    and AICPA.
  • Draft appropriate business operating policies and procedures.
  • Serve as an active member of the University's Strategic Planning Group and such other campus committees or UL System committees as designated by the President and Provost.
  • Participate in such other activities as deemed necessary by the President and Provost.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must possess significant and diversified leadership experience in finance, budgeting, financial planning, human resources management and IT systems. Five years' of progressive management responsibility in a business, higher education or non-profit setting is required. A master’s degree in business administration or related field is also required. Must be a dynamic and positive leader and communicator with strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is desired that qualified candidates have an advanced degree in business administration plus knowledge and experience with strategic planning and alignment of resources to strategy.
