POSITION SUMMARY


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Sports Performance is expected to direct a comprehensive, sports-specific strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes. Design, develop and deliver comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for all Intercollegiate Athletic teams. Establish annual testing and performance measures. Teach proper execution, techniques and safety for all lifts and movement drills. Effectively motivate athletes to achieve the maximum potential in all areas of performance. Communicate and work in collaboration with athletic trainers to provide an integrated program of injury prevention, reconditioning and performance training. Assist in developing and delivering a plan addressing performance and nutrition issues for all student athletes. Assist in the recruiting process in regards to communicating sports performance program and goals. Must be flexible to work irregular hours. Must effectively work, write, speak, present and communicate with staff, administrators and other coaches in the athletic department. Must maintain CSCS certification and pursue professional development opportunities throughout the year. Scheduling, budgeting, staffing, monitoring, maintenance of equipment, cleanliness and overall appearance of the Sports Performance Program. Work in conjunction with head coaches or their designees to plan, organize and implement in-season sport specific strength & conditioning programs with an emphasis on developing and improving student-athlete performance and decreasing injury potential. Provide instruction and programming for student-athletes who wish to continue voluntary strength & conditioning training outside of their declared season during the academic year. In conjunction with interested head coaches or their designee, plan, organize and distribute voluntary summer sport specific strength & conditioning programs with an emphasis on developing and improving student-athlete performance and decreasing injury potential. Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff relative to the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries. Maintain compliance with all NCAA, Southland Conference and university rules and regulations. Supervise and/ or provide relevant education for any of the following: Assistant Strength & Conditioning coach(es), coaches, student employees, or interns, and student-interns and student-athletes. Provide regular assessments of the various programs described above. Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required. Strength and Conditioning certification from one of the following nationally recognized certification programs: National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)/Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS); or Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCC)/Strength & conditioning coach Certified (SCCC). Two years minimum experience as a strength & conditioning coach in a college athletics department or professional sports organization post completion of required certification. Experience and demonstrated success training male and female collegiate level student-athletes in a broad based sports program. First Aid, CPR/AED Certification Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the department mission and goals, the NCAA Division I philosophy and the role of physical education and athletics within a private, selective, academically rigorous, liberal arts setting.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in a related field. Four years minimum experience as a strength and conditioning coach in a college athletics department or professional sports organization post completion of required certification. Experience as a student-athlete or coach Fitness facility maintenance/supervision experience United States Weightlifting Level I Certification preferred. Experience with the instruction of all Olympic lifts required.


SALARY

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
