English Placement Guidelines

If your ACT ENGL score is 18-27, or SAT Critical Reading is 450-610, or Placed in ENGL 1157 as a result of the UNO English Placement Test

Register for any section of ENGL 1157.
Then in the following semester, take A&S 1119 and ENGL 1159.

 

If your ACT ENGL score is 28-31, or SAT Critical Reading is 620-700, or AP exam score (ENGL lang. comp.) of 3 or better, or Placed in ENGL 1158 as a result of the UNO English Placement Test, or have taken the first semester freshman ENGL composition class (3 credit hours) at college level as a dual-enrollment student

Register for Honors Combo (ENGL 1159 and A&S 1119).

 

If your ACT ENGL score is  32 or higher, or SAT Critical Reading is 710 or higher, or AP exam score (ENGL lang. comp.) of 4 or higher, or Placed in Exempt status a result of the UNO English Placement Test, or have taken to semester worth of freshman ENGL composition classes (6 credit hours) at college level as a dual-enrollment student

Register for Honors Combo (ENGL 2279 and A&S 1119).

 

If you have different placements according to the different sources, you should register for the higher placement. For example, if your ACT ENGL score is 25, but placed in ENGL1158 as a result of the UNO English Placement Test, you are eligible to take the Honors Combo (ENGL1159 and A&S1119).

Important

A&S 1119 and ENGL 1159/2279 need to be taken concurrently. Your ENGL instructor must be the same as your A&S 1119 instructor. ENGL 1159 is the Honors equivalent of ENGL 1158.
