Word is the Department of English’s annual newsletter. It features articles and updates by undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, and faculty members.

The newest publication of UNO's English Department. Spread the Word. Read it. Share it. Love it.

UNO's FWP prepares students to succeed in their academic coursework, communicate more effectively, and engage successfully with an increasingly text-heavy world. We teach writing as a process of inquiry: writing is not only a way to express what we already know, but a way to learn.

Freshman Writing Program

We offer a two-semester sequence of courses, ENGL 1157 and ENGL 1158. Clearly defined outcomes and our Writing as Inquiry Identity guide our instruction. Our pedagogy fosters the development of cognitive strategies, called "habits of mind," that are essential to success in college.

Students who complete our program are not only better writers but also better students.
