FWP seeks to collaborate with local area high schools.

In his book The Transition to College Writing, Keith Hjortshoj, a teacher of writing at Cornell University, suggests that successful high school students sometimes fail to earn good grades once they enter college because they lack a clear and accurate understanding of the expectations of their college instructors. Likewise, college instructors often fail to communicate their expectations effectively because they lack a clear and accurate understanding of their students' academic backgrounds and experiences. This lack of understanding contributes to what Hjortshoj paints as a veil between high school and college, both for students and teachers.
