Below is a list of frequently asked questions that might be able to help you out and answer many of your questions.

How do I apply for admission?
Admission for UNO’s Distance Education program is the same process as any other student at UNO. To apply for admission click on the Admissions link on the home page or click here. You will be taken to the general UNO admissions site where you can begin your online application process.  As well, notice that in the admissions site you will be able to chat live with a representative of the admissions office of the University of New Orleans.

Is Financial Aid available?
Yes, Financial Aid is available for students.  To apply for financial aid, students must go through a financial aid application. This process is accurately detailed in the UNO’s Financial Aid Office. To be directed to the Financial Aid office site, click here.  As well, all applicants are considered for merit-based scholarships. 

What are the tuition costs?
The tuition cost of UNO’s Distance Education program is the same as any other student at UNO. Tuition may vary accordingly, depending on the number of credits each student is enrolled for. For an accurate report of the tuition at UNO, please click here.

Does UNO accept transfer credits?
Yes, transfer credits are accepted at the University of New Orleans. Once the applicant has been accepted to UNO, the deans of colleges will determine which credits will be accepted towards your UNO degree. For more information on transfer credits go to the UNO Admissions site or click here.

Is UNO an accredited university?
Yes, UNO is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 

Does UNO accept international students?
Yes, UNO does accept international students. International students must go through the same application process as any other applicant to UNO. For more information on admission for internatiol students, click here. To apply to UNO click here.

What type of technology do I need?
In order to successfully to complete a distance education course, you will need to have a fully-functional computer with access to the internet. If you are taking a Second Life class or a Teleconferencing class you might as well need speakers and a microphone. 

How and when do I enroll in an online class?
To enroll in a class, you must first be accepted as a UNO student. Once you are accepted, you will have a given username and a password which will grant you access to WebSTAR. After you are logged into WebSTAR you click on Learner Services, then click on Academics, and finally click on Enroll in or drop a Class. Then you pick the semester for which you wish to enroll and enter the course number which can be found in the catalog, and submit the information. You should receive a message saying you have successfully enrolled into your classes. If you experience any trouble accessing WebSTAR or enrolling into classes, feel free to email the University Computing Center at helpdesk@uno.edu. To go to the WebSTAR site, click here.

Do online courses count towards a degree?
Yes, all credit courses offered by UNO count towards a degree unless otherwise specified.

Do I have to live in New Orleans in order to take an online course?
No, for the majority of the Distance Education courses you do not have to live in New Orleans.

Can I take a distance education course entirely online, including exams?
Yes, there are courses that are entirely online. It depends on the modality of the course. Some courses might require you to take proctored exams on a UNO campus or at a designated site.

How do I receive and hand-in assignments?
The majority of online courses will use Moodle in order for students to receive and hand-in assignments. To log into Moodle, you will need your username and password which are given to applicants.
