Apply to Graduate Program in Chemistry

Thank you for your interest in the graduate programs in chemistry at the University of New Orleans! You can begin your application process by submitting an application to the Graduate School. Your official transcripts and test scores should be sent directly to the Graduate School.

GRE, Graduate Record Exam scores are  required by the Chemistry Department, as are TOEFL or IELTS scores if you are from a non-English speaking country. Our departmental guidelines for acceptable GRE scores are as follows: a minimum Quantitative Reasoning score of 148 (600 on the old GRE scale) and a Verbal Reasoning score of 153 (500 on the old scale). Information about English Proficiency requirements for international students can be found within the Graduate School.

All applicants to the M.S. and Ph.D. programs should also submit the following materials directly to the Chemistry Department.

  • A current résumé or C.V.
  • At least three letters of reference.
  • A statement of purpose explaining your interest in graduate school and the area of chemistry you are interested in, please indicate if you are undecided.

Application deadlines:

For Fall semester start dates, applications should be received by February 15, applications received later may be considered if positions are still available.

Applications for the Spring semester should be received by October 1, applications received later may be considered if positions are still available. M.S. applicants will be considered for Spring admission. Exceptional applicants to the Ph.D. program will be considered for Spring admission. Candidates interested in Spring admission are encouraged to contact the department.
