In addition, three letters of recommendation and a clear statement of the student's interests, experiences and goals are required. Previous research experience is desirable.

Both the MS and PhD are research-based degrees. Success in these programs requires the completion of a thesis (MS) or dissertation (PhD) in a specialized area of biology. It is essential that applicants familiarize themselves with the types of projects being conducted and the potential research advisors in the department. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact one or more faculty members to discuss areas of mutual interests and the availability of research positions in their laboratories.

When considering applicants for admission, the Graduate Committee will consider the student's academic record, test scores, research experience, letters of recommendation, and potential to successfully complete a research project in this department.

Financial Support

The Department strives to support all students admitted into the MS and PhD program by teaching assistantships, research assistantships, scholarships, or fellowships.
