Academic Requirements

  • an undergraduate course in American government
  • an introductory course in economics, either micro- or macro-.    

*You may take these courses at any accredited university, and you may take them while enrolled in the MPA program (during the first two semesters). 

Test Scores

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
*optional

  • Score at least 54 for economics or
  • 50 for American government

GRE

  • Total score of 300 or above on the quantitative and verbal sections (neither score below 150) and
  • 4.5 or above on the writing section will be positive indicators
  • However, lower GRE scores may be competitive if other indicators of success are strong (high GPA from a respected university; strong letters of recommendation from faculty; relevant work experience; etc.). We look at the complete application package.

Application Tips

Application is considered to be completed only if all required materials such as application fee payment, official transcripts and official test scores are received by the deadline.

  1. Attach the necessary documents
    1. Statement of Purpose
    2. Curriculum Vitae or Resume
    3. enter the names and contact information for the three persons who will submit letters of recommendation for you (academic references are preferred)
  2. Please submit test scores. Official test scores should be sent to the University of New Orleans. Only IELTS scores may be sent via mail. All other scores (GRE and TOEFL) should be reported electronically by the testing agency.
  3. Submit official transcripts from each institution that you have attended. International students may also need to submit certified English translations and evaluations of your transcripts. Learn more
