Major Concert Series

Jazz at the Sandbar

Jazz at the Sandbar takes place on Wednesdays in October-November and March-April of each year at 7 pm at the Sandbar in the Cove.  Respected jazz artists perform with UNO student ensembles in this acclaimed series.

Musical Excursions

Musical Excursions is an annual award-winning series that brings acclaimed classical and world musical artists to the Lakefront campus.

UNO Music Mourns the Loss of Former Professor Harold Battiste

The music world lost a talented, legendary performer, composer, arranger, and educator when UNO professor emeritus Harold Battiste passed away June 19 at the age of 83. Mr. Batt influenced hundreds of UNO Jazz Studies students and, with Ellis Marsalis, Charles Blancq, and Victor Goines, guided the emerging Jazz Studies program in its critical formative years.

Classes Resume August 19, First Meeting, Jazz Auditions Set

UNO classes resume August 19. If you haven’t been advised, now’s the time to check in with your advisor. The annual department-wide orientation takes place Friday, August 21 at 2 pm in the Recital Hall. Dr. Taylor will perform works from Marx Brothers movies on the clarinet, and Dr. Haber promises avant-garde interpretive dance. Tutus may be involved.

Jazz combo auditions will take place Thursday, August 20 at 12:30 pm in the Band Room (PAC 103). See Professor Petersen for details.
