The Ethel and Herman L. Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies promotes understanding of the city’s history and culture, with an emphasis on civil rights. It supports projects and programming that disseminate new research on New Orleans to the public, collaborating with the city’s cultural institutions, universities, and media outlets, as well as national and international institutions of higher learning. On campus and within the broader community the Midlo Center provides a space for interdisciplinary collaboration and on-going partnerships that promote community engagement and support the cultural life of the city. Through both oral history and digital humanities projects, it seeks to preserve lesser known aspects of the city's past. The Center also regularly hosts visiting scholars conducting research in New Orleans, from the U.S. and abroad.
