Supporter of the Year

The Department of Film and Theatre is Southern Rep Theatre's 2016 supporter of the year. Among the reasons for the accolade is the valuable partnership with UNO that provided a year-long residency for the theatre company at UNO’s Robert E. Nims Theatre.

The Department of Film and Theatre is proud to be an accredited member of National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). NAST was founded in 1965 to establish national standards for undergraduate and graduate programs in Theatre and Film. UNO is the only accredited program in the New Orleans metropolitan area.

The Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans is committed to an interdisciplinary belief that film arts, theatre arts, and writing for production enrich one another. The Department of Film and Theatre fuses the artistic, technical and analytical dynamics of theatre and film in a collaborative environment, educating the next generation of professional storytellers. In accordance with this philosophy, the department undertakes to educate its students, enrich the UNO and larger community, and encourage faculty development.

The Department of Film and Theatre offers a B.A. with courses of study in Film Arts and Theatre Arts; and the M.F.A. in Film and Theatre with emphases in Film Arts Production, Theatre Arts Performance, or Theatre Arts Design. Film and Theatre degree programs are built upon a strong foundation of literature, theory, history and the application of this foundation to the artistic process. The degrees are designed for interested and talented students wishing to develop careers as film or theatre, graduate students, college educators, or professionals in allied fields.
