Master's in Education (M.Ed.)

Graduate study is offered in special education which may lead to the Master of Education (M.Ed.). For those who have earned a bachelor's degree in education, the Master of Education (M.Ed.) provides advanced preparation for teachers in the field of special education.

Certifications in Special Education

The M.Ed. program provides an opportunity for the candidate to pursue many different certifications in the field of special education:

  • Mild/Moderate Disabilities
  • Significant Disabilities
  • Early Intervention*
  • Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Gifted/Talented Education

Program of Study

The program of study provides maximum flexibility for each graduate student in designing a program which will meet professional objectives. Upon acceptance, each candidate is assigned a major professor to assist in designing an appropriate program of study. The M.Ed. includes a minimum requirement of 36 credit hours. Each candidate is required to pass a written comprehensive examination. Typically, the comprehensive examination is taken during the last semester of graduate study.
