We are a leader in research, innovative practices, and the development of methods and materials to provide practitioners, researchers, parents, and policymakers with information and competencies in the provision of services to children with disabilities and their families.

About the Department

Graduate Programs

The University of New Orleans is a leader in graduate programs in the greater New Orleans area. Graduate study in teacher education include the Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree and Master's of Art in Teaching (MAT). The program of study for leadership personnel in special education leads to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.

NCATE Standards

All programs within the department are performance-based and are fully aligned with National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards.
