Curriculum and Instruction

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (CISE) provides a full range of initial and advanced programs related to the preparation of teachers and related personnel. The faculty are committed to conducting research in contemporary curricular practices and innovations.

About the Department

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (CISE) prepares students for teaching and related careers at the baccalaureate and master's levels in a broad variety of curricular areas; partners with and improves schools in the Greater New Orleans area; and generates and disseminates applied, basic, and sponsored research concerning teaching and learning.

The department's programs are informed by the interaction of theory and practice, and they are designed to develop an understanding of the major roles of teachers in culturally diverse, urban educational settings. Courses of study, partnerships with various agencies, and funded projects provide students with access to the most recent innovations in educational research, assessment, and technology.

Please Note: As of the Fall Semester 2016, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Department of Special Education and Habilitative Services have merged into a single department. Offices for the new Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (CISE) are now located in Suite 342 of the Bicentennial Education Building.
