Dr. Kate Reynolds is the coordinator of the Program in Deaf Education in the Department of Special Education and Habilitative Services (since 1990).

Dr. Reynolds is the Co- Director of LA-LIDC, a Louisiana State Department of Education funded project to collaborate with Louisiana Universities and out of state projects to provide interactive distance learning in Low Incidence Disabilities for teacher certification and professional development. In addition, she currently serves as the COEHD's Faculty Technology Coordinator. Her interests include infants and toddlers who are deaf/hard of hearing, distance learning techniques, and professional collaboration. For the past 6 years, she has served on the Board of Directors of the International Association of College Educators - Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACE-D/HH), and is he current Publications Chair for the organization . She  was the Local Arrangements Chair for the 2009 and 2001 international ACE-DHH conferences in New Orleans .

Courses 

There are three options in the Deaf Education Program:

  • Certification only - For Louisiana certified teachers holding type "B" certificates in another area who want an endorsement in Deaf Education. Also can be taken by anyone who has teacher certification in any state and wishes  to add a course or two to their knowledge base.
  • M.Ed. - For  certified teachers who want to add-on certification in Deaf Education AND get a Master's Degree.  Also for teachers with certification in Deaf Education who wish to get a Master's degree and Advanced knowledge and skills in Deaf Education.
  • M.A.T. - For individuals who graduated undergraduate in an area other than education, wish to become a certified teacher of students who are deaf or hard of hearing and want to obtain a Master;'s Degree.
