Graduate Students

Our graduate students are involved in a myriad of research projects with professional research staff and are supported by our external research funding. Much of our funded research is performed through our research centers. Our graduate programs are designed to accommodate applicants with various backgrounds and goals. Many of the courses are scheduled after regular business hours to enable the working engineer to continue to broaden their education on a part-time basis.

The College offers the following degrees at the graduate level:

NOTE: Teaching or Research Assistants should contact their respective departments for any additional requirements. With the approval of the College of Engineering and the Graduate School, a student may select an employment-related topic for their thesis.

Tips for Grad Students

It is highly recommended that current and potential COE graduate students become familiar with the UNO Graduate School catalog contents, in particular the page titled "Graduate Programs in Engineering." There you can read details about, but not limited to:

  • Admission Requirements
  • Requirements for Applicants Who Do Not Have an Undergraduate Degree in Engineering
  • Options and Concentration Certificates

After admission, students will be required to

  1. Select an area of concentration (civil, electrical, mechanical, or naval architecture and marine engineering).
  2. Select between two options:
      • Thesis (Research) Option
      • Non-Thesis (Courses Only) Option
