The main purpose of the UNO IEEE branch is to promote and encourage study of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering as well as other subject matters of interest to the IEEE.

One of its purposes is the stimulation and reward of scholarship. Another is to assist its members throughout their lives in becoming better professionals as well as better citizens. Still another purpose is that its members be a constructive force, helping fellow members and non-members alike to improve the standards of the profession, the courses of instruction, and the institutions generally where its chapters are established.

This association was established to recognize engineering students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. The Louisiana Epsilon Chapter was installed at UNO in 1993. Members are involved in community service such as Habitat for Humanity and Beach Sweep, as well at tutoring, blood drives and lectures on engineering topics.
