Donald L. Zimmerman, Ph.D. is Professor of Healthcare Management at the University of New Orleans. He joined the University in 2015 to start and direct a new program in Healthcare Management.

Previously, he was Professor and Director of the Graduate Health Care Administration Program at the University of Maryland University College and before that post, Executive Director and Associate Professor at the Center for Healthcare Management Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also served as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Sloan Program in Healthcare Administration, Cornell University.

Before turning to full-time academic work, Dr. Zimmerman was actively engaged in national and state health policy developments for 20 years as a senior researcher and analyst at the Intergovernmental Health Policy Project/National Health Policy Forum of George Washington University and Research Triangle Institute. In addition, he also served as senior aide to the National Committee for Vital and Health Statistics, adviser to the Office of the Surgeon General, a senior health official for the Pennsylvania Commonwealth, and professional staff consultant to the US Senate.

Over his career, Dr. Zimmerman has produced numerous health policy and research publications for the US Congress, Federal and state agencies, hospitals, physician groups, insurers, pharmaceutical firms, and public health agencies. He has just completed a new textbook on person-focused healthcare management for Springer Publishing and is currently engaged in conducting a series of related clinical management studies. In addition, his recent work with the US State Department has earned him a letter of appreciation from the US Ambassador from Nepal.
