Two new exhibitions from University of New Orleans fine arts graduate students will open at the UNO-St. Claude Gallery with a reception on Saturday, March 10 from 6-9 p.m. One show features the photography of Ashley Hope, while another showcases paint and video works by Veronica Cross and Nikki Juen.
Hope's exhibit, titled “The Everyday Universe,” is comprised of her MFA thesis work. According to the artist, her work uses familiar materials and surfaces to explores themes of domestic life, the relationship between representation and physical reality and the abiding fallacy of the inherent truth of photography.
Cross and Juen's show, "Embodiments," traverses the terrain of the body, particularly in female-performed experiences. Through a blend of painting and video, Cross and Juen call upon established cultural tropes of representation to create personal narratives that explore trauma, catharsis, joy and indulgence.
The shows will run though April 7 with regular gallery hours on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 p.m. The gallery is located at 2429 St. Claude Ave.
