University of New Orleans Announces 2017-18 Musical Excursions Schedule


The University of New Orleans announced that the 2017-18 Musical Excursions series will feature Kenny Broberg, a silver medalist in the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, on Oct. 9; world-acclaimed and Grammy-nominated classical guitarist Paul Galbraith on Oct. 24; the award-winning Prima Trio on November 14; and Russian pianist Ilya Yakushev, 2005 winner of the World Piano Competition, on March 20, 2018. All concerts will take place at 7 p.m. at the Recital Hall inside the Performing Arts Center on UNO’s campus.

Kenny Broberg, 23, is a Minnesota native and a graduate student at Park University in Missouri. In addition to his silver medal from the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, he won first prize at the 2017 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in England and the 2016 Dallas International Piano Competition. He also has medals from competitions in Sydney, Seattle, New Orleans and Shreveport.

Paul Galbraith is a Scottish-born classical guitarist. His recordings of works by Bach, Haydn and Brahms are critically acclaimed, and his “Complete Solo Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas” was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award in the category of Best Solo Instrumental Album. He has toured extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Brazil, China and India.

The Prima Trio includes Boris Allakhverdyan on clarinet, Gulia Gurevich on violin and Anastasia Dedik on piano. The group was founded in 2004 while its members were studying at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, and it has performed throughout the United States and Europe.

Russian pianist Ilya Yakushev was the 2005 winner of the World Piano Competition. He has performed with the San Francisco Symphony and the Boston Pops and has toured in Russia, Korea, Singapore and the United States.
