UNO and Latter & Blum to Present Annual Economic Outlook and Real Estate Forecast Seminar for the Northshore Region

The University of New Orleans and its executive partner, Latter & Blum, Inc., will present the Dr. Ivan Miestchovich Economic Outlook & Real Estate Forecast Seminar for the Northshore Region on Friday, June 9. It will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Clarion Inn and Suites Conference Center in Covington. The seminar will focus on the flood events of March and August 2016, which affected every parish in the region.

Registration and networking begins at 8 a.m., followed by opening remarks from UNO President John Nicklow and John Williams, dean of the UNO College of Business Administration. The seminar will be moderated by Robert Penick, interim director of the Institute for Economic Development and Real Estate Research.

The opening panel discussion will concentrate on the economic impacts of the floods and the status of recovery with Patrick Forbes of the Louisiana Office of Community Development, David Bennett of the Livingston Parish Economic Development Council, Alyson Lapuma of the Tangipahoa Parish Government Office of Community Development and Junior Shelton, mayor of Central, La. The panel will provide perspective on the flooding from the state, parish and city levels.

The real estate panels will examine the impacts the flooding had on the commercial and residential markets on the Northshore. In addition to real estate professionals, each panel will include a member of the insurance industry to address the insurance issues facing properties, businesses and homeowners. The commercial panel includes Sergio Mesa with Latter & Blum Classic, Joe Moore of RE/MAX First and John Case of Lowry-Dunham, Case & Vivien Insurance. The residential panel features Marie Brock of C.J. Brown, Richard Haase of Latter & Blum, Inc. and Dwayne LeBlanc with Wright National Flood.

The cost to attend the seminar is $50 in advance (if registered by Monday, June 5) and $65 at the door. The event is free to UNO faculty, staff and students, who must also register.
