The University of New Orleans Office of Career Services hosted a job fair that brought 115 employers to the University Center on Sept. 26. Alongside national and international companies such as IBM, Chevron, GE and Entergy were locally-owned organizations like Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group and Hancock Whitney bank.
Employers participating in the job fair represented industries ranging from hospitality, retail and food service to insurance, real estate, financial services, nonprofits, utilities and government agencies. Celyn Boykin, director of UNO’s Office of Career Services, estimates that between 600 and 700 students attended the job fair. The level of student participation was the highest ever for this type of event, she said.
“Many employers interviewed our students on site and some were hired the same day,” said Boykin. Students from all kinds of disciplines and different levels of experience were able to learn about internships, full-time positions and part-time opportunities, she added.
