University of Louisiana System Student Board Member Elected

The University of Louisiana System Student Advisory Council met on May 16 and elected UNO Student Government Association President Antonio Torres as the student board member for the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

"I am honored my peers chose me as their voice on the Board to represent the 90,000 students in the UL System," Torres, a business administration senior, said. "I am looking forward to working with the Board to tackle the many challenges facing higher education and ensure the System thrives during these difficult times."

Torres, a Kenner native and Rummel High School graduate, will serve as a voting Board member through May 2017.

In addition to electing the student board member, the Student Advisory Council elected the following:

• Council of Student Body Presidents Chair: Louisiana Tech University SGA President Mackenzie Potts
• Student Advisory Council Chair: Southeastern Louisiana University SGA President Erin Fernandez
• Student Advisory Council Vice Chair: UL Lafayette SGA President Wil Perkins
• Student Advisory Council Service Learning Coordinator: Northwestern State University SGA President John Pearce

The UL System Student Advisory Council is charged with enacting any measures necessary to improve student life for UL System students and ensuring a strong working relationship among student body presidents within the nine-university System. The Council meets twice a semester, organizes the UL System service-learning project and annually travels to Washington, D.C. with the Council of Student Body Presidents.
