The University of New Orleans- St. Claude Gallery has announced the opening of “10,000 RPM’s,” an exhibition of new work by Generic Art Solutions, the collaborative artistic duo of UNO Artist in Residence Tony Campbell and UNO MFA alumnus Matt Vis. The gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Ave., will host an opening reception on Saturday, March 12, from 6-9 p.m.
The show is comprised of works that continue the artists’ investigation into the nature of collaboration itself, in artworks that “lay bare the dynamic elements that inevitably arise during the creative process when dual forces converge on a single idea.” A performance and video titled “Streetfighter: Ninjas” particularly addresses the confrontation and surrender involved in collaboration and the glory and failure of conflict and bravado associated with the works. The performances accompany paintings, photos and prints exploring the challenges of collaborative artmaking. Yotam Haber, the Kock Endowed Assistant Professor in the UNO Department of Music, has composed a score for the video work.
The exhibit will run from March 12 through April 3, 2016. Regular gallery hours are Sat-Sun, 12-5 p.m.
