UNO Marketing Week Brings Region’s Leading Marketing Professionals To Campus Oct. 17-21

Sidney TorresNow in its fifth year, UNO Marketing Week is designed to help interested students, particularly marketing majors, prepare for careers by hearing first-hand lessons from those who work in the field. Featured speakers will visit regularly scheduled marketing and other business administration classes throughout the week. This year’s keynote speaker is Sidney D. Torres IV, entrepreneur and CEO of IV Capital LLC. Torres owns three New Orleans hotels, manages 25 limited liability corporations and employs 150 people. He is well known for his work as a contractor for the city of New Orleans when he ran SDT Waste and Debris Services in the years following Hurricane Katrina. More recently, Torres has turned his attention to fighting crime through the development of the French Quarter Task Force app, which uses crowdsourcing information about possible crimes in progress and suspicious activity to alert police about where assistance is needed. According to Torres, in the first month of operation the app was downloaded more than 7,500 times, generated 600 calls for service, led to 50 arrests and removed five guns from the streets of the French Quarter.

Torres will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 18th from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in Kirschman Hall, room 122. The roster of scheduled speakers also includes:
