The Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) is an advocacy group that works to advance and protect the interests of the state’s foodservice industry. One of its many initiatives is the LRA Education Foundation, which provides one-time financial assistance for students pursuing post-secondary education in the culinary or hospitality fields and educators or industry professionals working on special certificate programs. According to the LRA Education Foundation website, the organization has awarded $270,000 in scholarships since 2009. The LRA Education Foundation supports the overall mission of the LRA by helping to ensure that restaurant employers have a steady pipeline of available talent required to keep the industry competitive.
UNO’s Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration (HRT) offers a premier hospitality management education in the living laboratory of New Orleans’ preeminent tourism industry. The master’s degree program is the only one of its kind in the state of Louisiana. Ninety percent of all of HRT students hold full- or part-time jobs that are directly related to their profession.
