John Williams, the dean of the University of New Orleans College of Business Administration, was named president-elect of the Southwestern Business Deans' Association at the organization's annual conference last week in Santa Fe, N.M.

The Southwestern Business Deans' Association is composed of deans and associate deans from business schools in Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Utah. The organization provides a forum for sharing methods of advancing business programs.

"I am honored to be part of the Southwestern Business Deans' Association," Williams said. "I consider it the very best way to collaborate with colleagues and discuss best practices for business schools. I look forward to networking with members throughout the year, working on next year's conference and growing the membership."

Each year the association holds its annual two-day conference in Santa Fe, N.M. It features speakers who provide their expertise on topics chosen by the membership along with a representative from the Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB).

Williams was named dean of UNO's College of Business Administration in 2013, having served as interim dean since 2010. He came to the University in 2005 as the director of the Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration. He holds a doctorate from Penn State.
