The annual collaboration between artists from the University of New Orleans and Innsbruck, Austria gets underway on Saturday, November 14 with an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. at the UNO-St. Claude Gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Avenue. The 16th iteration of the UNO-Center Austria artist exchange brings the work of Austrian artists Anemona Crisan and Birgit Pleschberger to New Orleans in an exhibit called "Intersecting Lines."
The City of Innsbruck and the University of New Orleans launched an arts exchange program in the fall of 2000. Each year, the City of Innsbruck selects two Austrian artists whose work will be displayed in the fall at the UNO-St. Claude Gallery. In turn, faculty from UNO's Department of Fine Arts identify two program graduates who will exhibit the following summer at Innsbruck's Andechs Gallery. The art opening in Innsbruck will take place during the first week of UNO's International Summer School.
Participants in the exchange enjoy short artists-in-residence stays—usually one week long—to experience the artistic communities in the host city. Faculty from UNO's Department of Fine Arts will announce in the spring which UNO graduates will travel to Innsbruck as part of the exchange.
Exhibit dates for "Intersecting Lines" are Nov. 14-Dec. 6, 2015. Regular gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, from 12-5 p.m.
