Pingsha Dong

Pingsha Dong, Ph.D., holds the Avondale Industries, Inc. Engineer & Shipbuilding Chair and has been with the University of New Orleans since July 2009. He came to the University of New Orleans after developing pioneering research at Batelle Columbus. His field of expertise is in the areas of computational modeling of manufacturing processes with a focus on welding and joining, residual stress and distortion analysis of welded structures, and advanced fatigue and fracture assessment procedures. His current research and teaching interests include: math-based design-for-produceability evaluation methods for lightweight ship structures; advanced design and analysis techniques for offshore and marine structures; advanced methods for fatigue and fracture assessment of FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading units); fitness-for-service (FFS) or engineering critical assessment (ECA) methods and structural health monitoring for aging ship and offshore structures; mechanics of residual stresses and distortions in shipboard structures and mitigation techniques; and computational methods for manufacturing process simulation: welding, joining, and allied processes.
