Since its inception, the University of New Orleans has offered innovative and challenging courses of study, many with a distinctly New Orleans focus. Today the University offers over 60 undergraduate programs and more than 40 graduate programs across five academic colleges.

Many of these programs, along with UNO as a whole, have been ranked and noted on a national and international basis.

  • Listed on U.S. News & World Report Top National Universities
  • Listed on Princeton Review Best Colleges
  • Listed on Washington Monthly Best Universities
  • UNO is home to the largest College of Business in Louisiana
  • The award winning Creative Writing Workshop has graduates that have published over 65 books
  • UNO Pre-Professional students have a 22% higher acceptance rate to medical school and an 18% higher acceptance rate to dental school than national averages
  • The Greater New Orleans Center for Data Assurance is one of a very few centers certified as a "National Center of Academic Excellence" by the National Security Administration (NSA)
  • Jazz Studies faculty performed on a Grammy Award-winning recording with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra
  • UNO's Accounting Program is one of a select number to have international accounting accreditation and internal audit "Center" status
  • The Master of Urban Planning is the only accredited planning program in Louisiana
  • The UNO Center for Hazard Assessment, Response & Technology has been a key resource for post Katrina rebuilding information and aid

UNO has a strong history of conducting groundbreaking research that has an impact on the global community in far reaching ways.  Research faculty work daily on advancing science and technology that will solve both today's and tomorrow's problems.

  • UNO is a Carnegie-rated Research University/High (second highest rating)
  • The National Center for Advanced Manufacturing (NCAM) is one of two centers in the world certified to produce man-rated space structures
  • UNO has nationally known research programs in nanosciences, coastal restoration and advanced manufacturing among others
