Admission standards at UNO will change significantly for the fall of 2012. Incoming freshmen can no longer be admitted if they require a remedial course. This is an important change. To ease the transition to these new standards, the University of New Orleans has created a Summer Bridge Program. This special program will not only enable students to complete any remedial course they need, it will give them a head start on their college career by offering them additional courses they may take for full college credit. Students can enroll for up to seven hours of credit during this summer session. Taking seven hours may allow eligible students to qualify for Federal Student Financial Aid, while also providing them an introduction to university-level study in a supportive learning environment.
This program will be within the regular summer semester and there will be no incremental or extra costs associated. Normal tuition and fees will apply, but the program participation itself has no extra charges.
In the Summer Bridge Program, Developmental Mathematics and English courses will be offered to students who need remedial study, and each course will be paired with tutoring sessions to enhance learning. In addition, each student will take University Success 1001 – a course that teaches the fundamentals of how to succeed in college. Students can also earn college credit by taking another Freshman-level class, chosen from the following subject areas:
Anthropology
History
Political Science
Geography
Psychology
(more options to come)
